Commission Process
Initial Brief and Site Visit: The process often begins with the client's initial brief, where they communicate their vision and requirements. To gain a comprehensive understanding, a site visit is arranged to accurately assess the environment and interior space. It’s best to get in touch early to allow enough time for the design phase, which is a key part of the process and to ensure a suitable schedule can be booked in - This is particularly crucial for new build projects.
Design Phase with CAD Drawings: Using the initial brief as a foundation, I create accurate CAD drawings. These drawings provide a visual representation of the design and allow for exploration of form, materiality, and colour. Client collaboration during this phase ensures the design aligns with their vision.
Manufacturing: Once the final drawings and costings are agreed upon, I order the materials and begin the manufacturing process in the workshop. Here, everything is prefabricated before installation. The lead time varies depending on the project's size, typically ranging from 4 to 8 weeks for larger projects.
Installation: Most of the installation work takes place in the workshop, where everything is dry-fitted and checked before heading to the site. Once on-site, I ensure the pieces are levelled, scribed, and fitted to the highest standard. The timeframe for installation can vary based on the project's scale, ranging from a couple of days to two weeks.
Materials
I’ve built up a wide library of materials, which lets me offer options for a range of budgets and project needs. Whether you’re looking for something affordable or more high-end, I can provide materials that match your budget and vision.
For wood, I often use solid timber like European Oak, Ash, and American Black Walnut, and I can also source British hardwoods and softwoods. I regularly work with sheet materials, laminates, and veneers, focusing on quality plywood like birch ply. Laminates I use include Formica, Forbo Linoleum, and Fenix.
I also work with specialist materials such Hi-Macs, Richlite, Foresso, Mirrl, Corian, and recycled surfaces. I have experience in working with composites and I collaborate with local businesses for upholstery, metal, stone, and glass fabrication.
I’m always open to exploring new materials and processes to meet the specific needs of each project, so I'm always keen to hear any new exciting ideas!
